Please read the initial welcome email (copied at the bottom) and see the important reminders below.
  • Please read the event regulations thoroughly.
  • Zoom Meeting - join at least 10 minutes early (9:50am EST).
  • Make sure that you have access to the lichess account that you registered with. If you can't log in, we cannot help you.
  • This event operates on Eastern Standard Time (New York time).  See the schedule here.  Round 1 is at 10:00am EST (Easter Time/New York). Check countdown timer at our website.
  • If you need to cancel/withdraw as an individual or as a team, let us know now by responding via email.
  • Play all of your games and join Zoom from a computer.  Using a tablet or phone will likely lead to technical difficulties.
How to Play
  • To join your game, at the beginning of the round time, join your game manually at the pairings page.  Your game will not start automatically - click your pairing to join your game.
  • If your opponent is not present, you do not need to inform us. They will have the entire 10 minutes to show up.  All results are automatically collected by our system.
  • Pairings will be posted a couple minutes before each round.  Clocks will start soon after the start of the round.
 
Your Entire Team will be removed from the event if:
 

 

  • Your team is missing multiple players for a specific round.
  • One or more of your team members has been marked for terms of service or fair play violations.  Play fairly!

Captains and Players,

 

Welcome to the 5th Annual Kasparov Chess Foundation University Cup.  Please read this entire email for some very important information.

 

The deadline to register a team or player, submit eligibility, and adjust lineups/rosters is Friday, January 31, 10:00am Eastern Standard Time (New York).  This is 24 hours before the start of round 1.  Incomplete or incorrectly registered teams will be removed at that deadline time.

 

Before the Event

 

  • If your teammates still need to join your team, have them join now.
  • 24 hours before the event, teams with 0-3 players will be removed from the event.
  • All players and captains must read the event regulations thoroughly.
  • All players must have access to the lichess account that you registered with. If you forget your password or can't log in on game day, you and your team will not be able to play.
  • Captains - if you need to adjust lineups, roster, or board order, use our registration hub, which will close 24 hours before round 1.
  • You must submit an eligibility document proving all player's eligibility for this event.  The link to submit eligibility online is here.
  • The deadline for eligibility and registration is 10:00am Eastern Time Friday, January 31, (24 hours before round 1).  All teams and players must be registered by then, and eligibility must be submitted online.
  • Note that this event operates on Eastern Standard Time (New York time).  See the schedule here.
  • The registration hub will re-open after round 5 on Saturday, until 6 hours before round 6 on Sunday, to allow team captains to (optionally) rearrange their team lineups for day 2.

During the Event

 

  • Play all of your games and join Zoom from a computer.  Using a tablet or phone will likely lead to technical difficulties.
  • All players must be on Zoom - the tournament Zoom link is on the pairings page.
    • Join Zoom with your full name displayed (not your lichess name).
    • Your video must be turned on while you have an active game.
    • Screenshare is not required.
    • The standard webcam view is acceptable - you do not need to join with a second camera.
    • Stay in Zoom between rounds - you may turn your video off while you are not playing.
    • Please only join Zoom from one device. A secondary camera is not required.
  • There will be important announcements in the Zoom chat - pay attention to the Zoom chat window during the event.
  • During the event, if you have questions, you can email us, or contact a "TD" in Zoom - Grant Oen or Aris Marghetis.
  • To reduce the amount of forfeits/defaults, teams who are missing 1 or more players in any round may be removed from the future pairings.
  • If you are not in an active game, you can tune into the event commentary on Twitch and Youtube featuring IM Kostya Kavutskiy and WGM Sabina Foisor.  You may not listen to commentary while playing!
  • You must be logged into the same lichess account that you registered with.  If you can't remember your password, can't log in, etc, you will not be able to play in the event.

Event Removal and Fair Play
 

 

  • Ensure that your name and ratings are shown properly on the entry list.  We will conduct a thorough review of this list before, during, and after the tournament, and players or teams with erroneous registrations or ratings will not be eligible for prizes.
  • Teams who show up with less than 4 players for a specific round will be withdrawn from the rest of the event unless we are notified by your team captain otherwise.
  • We have caught several cheaters in every previous edition of this event.  If you are caught cheating, you and your entire team will be removed from the event, and a letter may be sent to your academic institution and federation.  Play fairly.
